Dermatology
Dr. Sarah Flanagan was raised in northeastern Ohio but also enjoyed spending summers with extended family on their western Pennsylvania farms. She grew up with a variety of furry, finned, and feathered family and knew from a young age she wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Her interest in veterinary dermatology was initially inspired by her own dog, Rory, who dealt with chronic atopy and food allergy throughout her life. She is passionate about improving pets’ quality of life through dermatology as well as working with and supporting owners.
Dr. Flanagan began her journey at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio and graduated in 2011 with her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She went on to veterinary school at The Ohio State University and graduated in 2015, then pursued a one year ambulatory internship at Genesee Valley Equine Clinic in Scottsville, NY followed by a rotating small animal internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio. She completed her dermatology residency with Dermatology for Animals in Arizona in July 2020 before moving back home to northeastern Ohio to work at our Akron, Ohio office.
She currently lives with her husband and daughter along with a trouble-making rescued Siamese/Akron street cat mix named Oliver, a grumpy senior Siamese cat named Baxter, a couch potato terrier/cattle dog mix named Leroux, and lots of tropical and saltwater fish. In her free time Dr. Flanagan enjoys hiking the myriad local state and national parks, running (while dragging Roux with her), and gardening (although she never finds time to cook all her veggies and often gives them away).
