DESCRIPTION:Topics and Important Take-Aways\n\nImportant Metabolic Consider
ations when Dealing with Feline Hepatic Lipidosis\nStrategies for managing
  Suppurative Cholangiohepatitis\nChronic Management Non-Suppurative Cholan
 giohepatitis\n\nCanine Copper-Associated-Hepatopathy: insidious onset that
may have a tragic outcome.\nPractical Considerations: Causal Factors\nSho
uld You Submit that ATP7B test?\nWhile diagnosis requires liver biopsy wit
h rhodanine (copper specific) staining.\nWhat is the value of liver copper
quantification ?  Does it influence interventional strategies ?\n\nSyndr
omic Hepatobiliary Disorders: Some Pearls\n\nEarly Diagnosis of Gall Bladd
er Mucocele Matters. How to Do That ?\nAre there short-comings to laparos
copic cholecystectomies?\nShould you biopsy the liver in these cases?\nSho
uld you submit the GB for histopathology ?\nShould you culture the GB ?.\n
\nDuctal Plate Malformations: What are they ? What are they mistaken for
?\nImportant managerial considerations will be summarized.\n\nMicrovascula
r Dysplasia: What Exactly is This ? Is there a specific treatment ?\nShou
ld you repeatedly measure bile acids in these dogs?\nShould you treat with
SAMe or Ursodiol?\nShould you recommend a prescription protein restricted
liver diet?\nWhat is the Life Expectancy for dogs with MVD?\n\nGlycogen-t
ype Vacuolar Hepatopathy: a common reactive hepatocellular response.\nWhe
n to worry about it?\nCan you specifically treat it ?  Should you use chr
onic antioxidants ?\nWhat serious metabolic disorder is confused with typi
cal G-VH ?\n\nDr. Center completed her veterinary training at the Universi
ty of California at Davis\, an Internship and Internal Medicine Residency
at Cornell University and for 40 yrs help manage the Internal Medicine Spe

nal Medicine. She has contributed to the training of a continuum of Small
Animal Internal Medicine residents and also Pathology residents (hepatic p
athology) since 1983 and continues to provide consultative teaching as an
Emeritus Professor. She has conducted focused research in the area of hepa
tobiliary disease- developing tests (e.g.\, bile acid testing\, digital qu
antification of copper in liver samples)\, characterizing numerous syndrom
es (e.g.\, feline hepatic lipidosis\, feline suppurative and non-suppurati
ve cholangiohepatitis\, microvascular dysplasia\, other breed related hepa
topathies)\, has authored numerous research and clinical peer reviewed man
uscripts\, as well as book chapters regarding hepatic disease and its diag
nosis in small companion animals. She has lectured on hepatobiliary diseas
e topics worldwide. She was named the Outstanding Woman Veterinarian in 20
